RALEIGH - Cary?s boys were third and the Apex girls were too at the Wake County Track and Field Championships hosted by Athens Drive High School on Saturday.Cary?s 89 points were behind second-place Broughton (91.5) and three-time county champ Knightdale (129.5). Apex had 84, which was behind two-time reigning champ Wakefield (138.5) and first-place Southeast Raleigh (147).Cary?s Paul Taylor swept the hurdles, taking the 110-meter (15.40) and 300-meter (40.44) competitions.Apex?s Brianna Helsnis won the shotput (38 feet, 3 and 1/2 inches) and in the discus she broke former Cary star Norjai Palma?s 2006 county meet record with her toss of 133 feet, 10 inches.Holly Springs? Jack Nosbich (six feet, six inches) took home the high jump title.Pole vault, which was done on Friday night to avoid conflict with long and triple jump.Cardinal Gibbons? Jose San Miguel won the boys? title in a record-tying 14 feet, 6 inches.San Miguel and Cary?s Phillip Thomas both had that mark, but San Miguel held the tiebreaker determined by the number of misses.Cary?s Bakri Abushouk, the 4A cross country champ, set a new meet record in the two-mile (9:27.04).Apex?s Torre Moser won the 800 (2:17.23) and Cardinal Gibbons? Amanda Wiggenhorn in the two-mile (11:40.60) despite being seeded ninth in the event.Cary?s team of Abushouk, Josh Barrett, Abel Tecle and Justin Lane set a county meet record in the 4-by-800 relay (7:52.20).In total, nine county records fell on Saturday.
