It is almost that time of the year again when the leaves begin to fall and many of us head outside to rake. If you are thinking about skipping that task this year let me tell why you should not. First and foremost raking untangles dead grass from across plants that would kill them. Raking allows our grass and lawns the chance to breath and to grow.
If you do not rake and the are left on your lawn all winter you run the risk of mold and mildew because thick leaves are the prime real estate for both of those. Raking the leaves provides the sunlight need to keep both mold and mildew at bay plus if your grass is a cool-season grass it will thrive when the leaves are raked up.
Not to mention the good workout you get from raking but in the end if you just hate the idea of raking that much and you can?t convince your children to do or they are too young there are a couple of alternatives. The first is to pay someone else to do it for you and the other is to mulch the leaves into your lawn. Either way is up to you. I personally love raking because I get to jump in the leaves with my kids afterwards.
